The Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) Educators’ Forum will provide an opportunity for educators, researchers, government officials, representatives of Aboriginal organizations, and community members to talk about what works for Aboriginal learners in early childhood education (ECE) and K–12 education. The forum will encourage the sharing of knowledge, facilitate dialogue, and create opportunities for new partnerships

Data-Driven Decision-Making in First Nation Schools: A Case Study
Presenter: Dr. Ronnie Miller, Professional Development Seminars, Executive Director

In this presentation Dr. Miller will review research findings suggesting the need for Educators to use learning material more relevant for First Nation students living in remote communities, and studying toward their High School Diploma. Dr. Miller will review a recently developed English program which is largely based on material written by Aboriginal authors and meets the majority of Ministry of Education requirements for High School English credits. This program is directly related to the FNSSP literacy requirement.

Presenter: Dr. Ronnie Miller
Ronnie Miller received his M.Ed. in Educational Administration, and Ph.D. in History & Philosophy of Education from the University of Toronto – OISE. Dr. Miller has completed substantial research in the fields of multiculturalism and the teaching of Critical Thinking Skills, has taught history at the High School and University levels, and is the author of two books published by academic presses. Ronnie has substantial experience in the area of private education, including the establishment of the Halton Learning Centre (a registered private school) and its respective high school programs. Over the last 25 years Dr. Miller has been involved with private schools in South Africa, Australia and Canada. In 1997, Dr. Miller gathered a team of educators and administrators, who now provide an array of educational and administrative services to a large number of private schools, as well as First Nation schools.
