Webinar #5: Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR):
Challenge & Equivalency
Speakers: Dr. Ronnie Miller (PLAR Challenge);
Mr. Jim Sebastian (PLAR Equivalency)
Tuesday, May 31 – 7:00PM – 8:00PM EST
There are two types of PLAR: Challenge & Equivalency.
PLAR: Challenge is an alternative way to earn credits. It also has a great marketing potential for private schools. In this section of the webinar, the presenter will discuss the advantages of earning credits through the PLAR: Challenge process, and examine the procedures which must be followed by the school, principal and student to successfully complete the PLAR: Challenge process. The presentation will also review the necessary Ministry forms to be used with PLAR: Challenge and discuss the evidence which must be provided during the Ministry inspection of PLAR: Challenge credits.
PLAR: Equivalency involves the assessment of credentials from other jurisdictions. Using the Ministry of Education’s guidelines for determining equivalency and the list of diploma requirements, the presenter will demonstrate the process by which equivalent credits should be granted. The presenter will provide a template for schools to use when determining equivalency, which meets the standard for Ministry inspections. This session is especially useful for schools that accept students from non-inspected private schools or from schools outside Ontario and particularly useful for schools that recruit international students.
The target audience for this webinar is: Small Private Schools.
